Overview
Just two and a half hours' flight from Istanbul, Tunisia has a history stretching from the Phoenicians and Romans through Arab dynasties to the Ottomans – almost too rich for a short break. We have designed this programme to fit the key sights into three nights at a comfortable pace.
After exploring Tunis, with its white-walled medina and the souks around the Zitouna Mosque, we see the Roman mosaics of the Bardo Museum, the seaside Antonine Baths of Carthage and the blue-shuttered houses of Sidi Bou Said. On the third day we travel to Kairouan, one of the earliest Islamic cities in North Africa.
You stay at a 4★ hotel with dinners included in Gammarth, a coastal area a short drive from Tunis. On the 31 December departure you welcome the new year on the Mediterranean coast.

Itinerary
Day 1 Istanbul – Tunis
We take a morning Turkish Airlines flight to Tunis, arriving around midday thanks to the time difference. With our guide we walk along Avenue Habib Bourguiba to the Bab el Bhar gate and enter the UNESCO-listed medina. After exploring the spice, perfume and textile souks around the Zitouna Mosque, we continue to our hotel in Gammarth.
Day 2 Bardo Museum – Carthage – Sidi Bou Said
We begin the day at the Bardo Museum, known for its rich collection of Roman mosaics. In Carthage we then explore the 2nd-century Antonine Baths, the traces of the Punic ports and Byrsa Hill. In the afternoon we head up to Sidi Bou Said, with its blue doors and white walls, and enjoy the view over the gulf with mint tea and pine nuts at a café.
Day 3 Kairouan
A drive of about 2 hours 30 minutes brings us to Kairouan, founded in the 7th century and one of the earliest Islamic cities in North Africa. We visit the Great Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Uqba, the Aghlabid Basins built in the 9th century to supply the city with water, and the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahib. After tasting the local makroudh pastries in the medina we return to our hotel in the evening; those who wish can add an optional extension to the El Djem amphitheatre and Hammamet.
Day 4 Tunis – Istanbul
After breakfast the morning is free to relax at the hotel or along the La Marsa seafront. Around midday we transfer to Tunis-Carthage Airport for our afternoon Turkish Airlines flight back to Istanbul.

Throughout the tour you stay at a 4★ hotel near the sea in the coastal area of Gammarth, about 20 minutes from central Tunis, on a half-board basis. The hotel name is confirmed 7 days before departure.

Visa Information Visa-free
Tunisia does not require a visa from Turkish citizens holding ordinary passports for tourist visits of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the return date and have at least 2 blank pages. As entry rules can change, current requirements are confirmed before departure; guests of other nationalities should inform our advisers before booking.
Important Information
- Opening hours and accessible sections of the Bardo Museum can change from time to time; if the museum is closed, the Carthage National Museum is visited instead.
- The courtyard of the Great Mosque of Kairouan can be visited outside prayer times with appropriate clothing; the prayer hall can only be viewed from the doorway.
- The May 2027 departure may coincide with Eid al-Adha, when some souks and shops may be closed.
- The El Djem & Hammamet extension requires a minimum of 10 participants and lengthens the day 3 programme.
- The child price (ages 2–12) applies when sharing a room with two adults on an extra bed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the programme tiring for such a short trip?
The programme moves at a balanced pace. The longest day is the Kairouan trip, with about 5 hours on the road in total; on other days the sights are close together and you return to the same hotel every evening.
Is there a special programme on the New Year departure?
On the 31 December departure New Year's Eve is spent at the hotel. The hotel's gala dinner is optional and priced separately; guests who do not join are served the regular half-board dinner.
What currency is used in Tunisia?
The official currency is the Tunisian dinar, which may not be taken out of the country. You can exchange euros at the airport or official bureaux; keep your exchange receipts so you can convert leftover dinars back at the airport on departure.
